Bali, Indonesia 6 December 2015: Papua New Guinea said a notable concern for them at the current Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC) annual meeting was fishing in the high seas and recommended urgent management intervention.
   PNG Ambassador Commodore Peter Ilau said, as a member of the Commission, PNG wished to reiterate its call for effective and appropriate mechanisms to encourage member compliance with their obligations under the Conservation and Management Measures developed and adopted by the Commission.

   Bali, Indonesia 6 December 2015: Tuvalu has become the latest Parties to Nauru Agreement (PNA) member nation to implement the Vessel Day Scheme for its longline fishing industry, signing on to the scheme at the PNA meeting in Bali.

Bali, Indonesia 4 December 2015: Tuvalu has warned fishing nations that continue to abuse capacity limit measures under the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC) that they will come under scrutiny to make sure they align with plans of Small Island Developing States like Tuvalu to develop their own fisheries.

He said management measures continued to be manipulated by members of the Commission to the disadvantage of Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

Bali, Indonesia 3 December 2015: Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission's (WCPFC) Executive Director Mr Feleti Teo said it is the collective responsibility of all members and stakeholders  of the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission to contribute to the solutions to rebuild overfished tuna stocks like Bigeye and by taking immediate urgent action.

This strong message was made at the opening of the commission meeting this morning at the Stone Hotel in Indonesia in Bali.

   Bali, Indonesia 27 November 2015: Hard limits for purse seine fishing effort on the high seas, a package of management measures for both longline and purse seine fishing fleets, and capacity management for small island developing states to expand domestic fishing fleets are key elements of a plan the Parties to the Nauru Agreement (PNA) want to see adopted by next week’s Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC) annual meeting in Bali, Indonesia.

Bali, Indonesia 26 November 2015: The Parties to Nauru Agreement (PNA) will oppose any proposal for a separate Fish Aggregating Device (FAD) logbook being proposed by certain fishing nations to collect and report data on FADs.

   Majuro, Marshall Islands 14 November 2015: The PNA plan to implement a Vessel Day Scheme (VDS) for the longline fishing industry in the western and central Pacific received a boost recently with the agreement of Papua New Guinea and Tokelau to join the five PNA nations that had triggered launch of the plan at the end of last year.

   This brings six of eight Parties to the Nauru Agreement (PNA) members and Tokelau into the new management scheme that aims to manage a largely out-of-control segment of the multi-billion dollar tuna fishery in the region.

Nadi, Fiji 22 September 2015: “Work with us, and support the systems that we have developed — don’t undermine the fisheries management framework that we have developed, because we will ultimately win,” PNA CEO Dr. Transform Aqorau said in his keynote address to the 5th Pacific Tuna Forum 2015 in Fiji today. “We are here to stay.”

Majuro 16 September 2015: Selection of the Parties to the Nauru Agreement (PNA) as a finalist in the international Seafood Championship Awards for 2016 is an honor that is “a good reflection of work the Parties have done to manage the fishery,” said the PNA CEO Tuesday.
